DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis-Briones signed the DepEd Order No. 007, series of 2020, known as the “School Calendar And Activities for School Year 2020-2021.” The COVID-19 outbreak which greatly affected the education system has yet to be contained and this is the great challenge the stakeholders and learners are facing right now, as well as thousands of teachers waiting for the department’s decision.
DepEd Forms for Class Advisers are now again available for download as the school year ends. These are the forms being prepared by class advisers for checking and most fo these are available and generated at DepEd Learner Information System (LIS) portal.
The Curriculum and Instruction Division Education Program Supervisors and District Heads of every Division are to conduct cross-district reading assessment in response to DepEd’s Memorandum No. 173, s. 2019 dubbed as “Hamon: Bawat Bata Bumabasa.”

In conducting a reading assessment, the “Administration and Interpretation of Rapid Assessment on Reading Skills (RARS)” can be used. The Rapid Assessment Reading Skills (RARS) is an assessment tool that provides an approximation of children’s reading skills, particularly the skill on word recognition. You can download it here.
DepEd’s Early Registration will commence from February 1 to March 6, 2020.
As the Department of Education (DepEd) “aims to inculcate a culture of excellence in its delivery of quality, accessible , relevant and liberating education for the Filipino learners,” it has developed its own Manual of Style (DMOS), 2018 Edition, that prescribes language style, format and usage based on The Chicago Manual of Style to be used by the department.
The Department of Education has just released the Service Marks and Visual Identity Manual (DSVMVIM), 2018 Edition. This contains the “guidelines on the specifications and applications of the Department’s name, seal, and logo to produce a unified look in all DepEd communications and publications.”
It’s a good start for the school teachers to be familiarized with the 2019 guidelines on promoting and retaining the learners as the school year has just started. On the Grading System, the K-12 Basic Education Program (BEP) uses a standards-based and competency-based grading system. All grades will be based on the weighted score of the learner’s summative assessments.
Regional Memorandum 18, s. 2019 – aims to protect teachers and school heads from possible abuses, harassment and complaints, and to prevent them from becoming victims by participating and tolerating illegal and unauthorized activities that were perceived to be acceptable due to prolonged practice and unbridled systems, hence this reiteration and guidance.
The Human Resource Development Division of the DepEd’s Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development releases the updated version of the Results-based Performance Management System (RPMS) Manual in reference to the implementation of the RPMS Manual and tools based on the first 12 PPST Indicators for SY 2019-2020 which you can download now.
