Learners’ Need for Holistic Development in High School
A year or two ago, I thought of creating a plan for our junior and senior high school learners are part of my tasks as school guidance coordinator. I am sharing this basic template I have drafted believing that it may be useful for your learners also. Let us briefly discuss about learners’ need for holistic development.
Holistic development in high school refers to the idea that students should not just focus on academic subjects, but also on their personal, social, and emotional development. This approach to education recognizes that students are complex individuals with a range of needs and interests, and that they should be supported in their overall development, not just in their academic pursuits.
There are several reasons why holistic development is important for high school students. First, it helps students develop the skills and competencies they need to be successful in both their academic and personal lives. This includes things like critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and self-management.
Second, holistic development can help students build the resilience and adaptability they need to navigate the challenges of high school and beyond. It can also help them develop a sense of purpose and meaning in their lives, which can be particularly important during the teenage years.
Finally, holistic development can help students build healthy and positive relationships with their peers, teachers, and others in their community. This can create a supportive and inclusive environment that can foster a sense of belonging and connection, which can be beneficial for academic and personal success.
Overall, holistic development in high school is important because it helps students become well-rounded and well-prepared individuals who are equipped to succeed in all aspects of their lives.
